I’m going to start by saying that this is NOT diet friendly LOL! If you want to make this recipe lighter, then you can add less « crumble » to top the apples. I love this recipe! I always liked crumble recipes, but they always include oatmeal and as much as I love oatmeal…. I don’t love it in my crumble so I created this one! I hope you enjoy!! This recipe is best enjoyed warm, about 15 minutes after it’s been taken out of the oven to let the apple cool down a little, the top becomes crispy on the outside but soft of the inside (like a good cookie) and topped with vanilla or apple crisp ice cream. Getting your apples and ice cream from a local farmer definitely elevates this recipe to another level but store bought ingredients is just fine as well 😊

Ingredients for about 6-8 people
- 10-15 medium/big apples peeled, cored and diced (I used cortland)
- 1 sticks or 1 cup of melted unsalted butter
- 1.5 cup of all purpose flour
- 1 cup of light packed brown sugar
- 3 tbsp of cinnamon powder
Preheat oven to 350F on covection bake or 400 on regular bake. Start by mixing your flour and sugar to combine. Make sure there are no brown sugar lumps. Add butter and mix with a solid spatula or wooden spoon. The mixture should look like a paste.

Mix your diced apples with the cinnamon and add to bottom of an oven safe pirex as shown below.

Finally, cover the apples with the « paste ». Don’t worry if it doesn’t cover everthing because it will melt a little and expand but try to spread it as much as you can. I don’t suggest adding it in lumps because it won’t cook properly (this isn’t a cake batter like in a cobbler).

This is the time where your patience will be tested! Put platter in the middle rack of the oven and let cook for 1 hour. After 1 hour, shut down the oven heat but DON’T OPEN IT. Let the crumble sit in the oven for 45 minutes to an hour. Your apples will reduce by 2/3 of their size and will caramelize a little. This is what makes this recipe so delicious so don’t skip this step! Then, let cool for 15 minutes and enjoy with fresh whipped cream or ice cream!
